A Happy Place

A Happy Place is Katie’s second single from her 4th studio album The House.
It was released on the 12th July 2010, featuring a remix of the track by Sparks.

The music video was filmed in a paternoster lift in Haus des Rundfunks, Berlin.
The constant movement of the lift and one’s inability to stop it represent the constant flow of life. The hat Katie wears in the video was made by a milliner called Piers Atkinson.

In an interview with the Sun Katie explained with regards to the video: “It was about finding peace within yourself no matter how much life is flowing in the right or wrong direction”.

01. A Happy Place

I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy place

Seven thousand eyes are watching
Marching home and no one’s touching
Army of the city workers
Secretaries, lawyers, brokers
Heading for a London station
Heading for a quick salvation
Oblivious to cherry cola
Trying to sell to every stranger

Stuck here it’s cold I’m standing
Hoping for some understanding
Only way to go is inside

I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy place

Seven thousand light years travel
Let my sense of time unravel
Trapped feelings are never ending
Send those weaknesses descending
Towards the earth’s red centre
Let the fire rise and enter
Tap into the primal power
Rising like a giant tower

The energy receiving
Cut a hole right through the ceiling
People getting smaller as you fly

I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy
I’m going to find a happy place

(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy Place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place

Find a star, send down a beam to where you are
An elevator of light taking you somewhere
Where you’ll always be loved

I have found that stress and nonsense
Puts me in zone of avoidance
Could my mind be moving faster
Pulling like a super cluster
Can be hard to trust a feeling
But believing ends in seeing

We’re going to find a happy
We’re going to find a happy
We’re going to find a happy place

(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place
(I’m gonna find a happy place) A happy place

Katie Melua is no stranger to a whimsical ballad. From moving numbers like her signiture The Closest Thing To Crazy and the Eva Cassidy duet What a Wonderful World, Katie has maintained her reputation of being one of the UK’s most loved and emotive vocalists of the past decade.

After a number of years working under the musical umbrella of Mike Batt, Katie has taken a creative sidestep and branched into the larger mainstream pool with her latest record The House which has so far spawned the incredible and epic single The Flood.

Knowing when something works, Melua keeps up her hit single trend with the follow up to The Flood, A Happy Place, which is produced by William Orbit (Madonna, Blur) and co-written by songwriting guru, Guy Chambers.

With an enchanting string arrangement and almost military style beat, A Happy Place is a mid tempo ballad with lyrics dedicated to the telling of Melua’s dismay at the pressures of 21st Century life.

An almost fantasy wonderland style number, A Happy Place is musically diverse and thought arousing with a varied array of melodies and is an instrumental escapade. Melua’s vocals are once again unblemished and syrupy throughout the track. If your looking for a happy place musically, look no further. A Happy Place is a delectable follow up within a new venture that is sure to fasten the staple that Melua has become within the international jazz and pop genres.
