01. Call Off The Search

I won’t spend my life
Waiting for an angel to descend
Searching for a rainbow with an end
Now that I’ve found you I’ll call off the search
And I won’t spend my life
Gazing at the stars up in the sky
Wondering if love will pass me by
Now that I’ve found you I’ll call off the search

Out on my own
I would never have known this world
That I see today

And I’ve got a feeling
It won’t fade away

And I won’t end my days
Wishing that love would come along
Because you are in my life where you belong
Now that I’ve found you I’ll call off the search

INTERLUDE

Now that I’ve found you I’ll call off the search
Now that I’ve found you I’ll call off the search

02. The Shirt Of A Ghost

Mary at home, as always, was ironing a pale shirt of a ghost
Trying to straighten out every crease of his being and the emptiness where she was lost
Ten minutes before she had her man drying in the summer’s breeze
Their love had been helped by a little red peg but it was just a moment seized

‘Cause he flew away
On a memory where most
People fade away
But now she’s left with the shirt of a ghost
Yeah she’s left with the shirt of a ghost

Ten minutes before he ran away to a stranger’s hands and feet
And as it turned she saw them play among the soap, water and heat.

‘Cause he flew away
On a memory where most
Lovers just fade away

And she’s left with the shirt of a ghost
Yeah she’s left with the shirt of a ghost

Ten minutes before the shirt was stained in anger and greed
And it smelled of revenge from a broken heart and the shirt his body no longer did need

‘Cause he flew away
On a memory where most
Bodies just fade away
But she’s left with the shirt of a ghost
Yeah she’s left with the shirt of a ghost

‘Cause he flew away
On a memory where most
Lovers just fade away
But she’s left with the shirt of a ghost
Yeah she’s left with the shirt of a ghost
She’s left with the shirt of a ghost

03. Deep Purple

When the deep purple falls,
Over sleepy garden walls,

And the stars begin to flicker in the sky,
Through the mist of a memory,

You wander back to me,
Breathing my name with a sigh.
In the still of the night,

Once again i hold you tight,
Though you’re gone, your love lives on

When moonlight beams.
And as long as my heart will beat,
Lover, we’ll always meet,
Here in my deep purple dreams.

04. Turn To Tell

I turn to tell him things
I still make tea for two
I keep the kitchen clean
The way he’d want me to
Start again, but I’m not ready to move on
‘Cos I still turn to tell him, I love him
But he’s gone

I miss the mess he made
Of my head when we fought
Over such silly things
I wish we could have talked

A little more, spoke instead of screamed
‘Cos when I turn to tell him, I love him
He’s just a dream

I lost the second chance
When fate led time away
I keep his picture close
So his memory won’t fade
Alive in me, forever with my soul
So when I turn to tell him, I love him
I think he knows

A restoration of faith

I stopped buying CD’s in this genre ages ago because everyone seemed to come from the same ‘factory’. Then I caught “The closest thing to crazy” on the Terry Wogan show. I was so bowled over by it that I stopped the car to listen properly. What an amazing voice! An order for the CD followed quickly and I was not disappointed.
This girl is undoubtedly one to watch. About 18 months on I’m still putting the headphones on late at night and playing “Lilac Wine” over and over… People keep comparing Katie with Norah Jones but her emotional involvement, dynamic & musical range, and pure artistry remind me far more of Barbra Streisand, and I can offer no greater compliment. Can’t wait to hear the new album!!

A Star is born

I had the chance to hear some of the tracks of CALL OFF THE SEARCH already and was blown away. Katie Melua is a new Talent discovered by Composer and Arranger Mike Batt. The Album has a jazzy and bluesy feel and reminds on old classics by Ella Fitzgerald. Katie’s Voice is so brillant and she wrote some of the songs herself. Katie sings classics like “Climbing Up A Hill” as well as her own compositions like “Spider’s Web”.

But the real winner of the Album is her first Single. Mike Batt’s new arrangement of “Closest Thing To Crazy” which has been played on BBC2 already and many Fans have signed her Guestbook on her own website www.katiemelua.com asking for her Album or Single.

When I first heard some of the tracks I had to think: “Ah, yes. This is exactly what I missed in our charts for all those years.”
It made me feel warm and cozy and I can’t wait to hear the rest of the Album.
Now finally her Album is available. Let’s buy it and play that old fashioned music again…. (and again…and again…)
